Shropshire's county town, just 6 miles away, is famous for its mediaeval buildings, including Shrewsbury Abbey (fictional home of Brother Cadfael). The river, with riverside walks, almost circles the town, which has good shopping facilities, museums and a castle.
Just a short drive away, Ironbridge is home to the world's first iron bridge and The World Heritage Site, comprising nine museums dedicated to the history of the Industrial Revolution.
